Prelude A Mighty Fortress Is Our God Johann Gottfried Walther

Welcome

*Call to Worship

God is our refuge and our strength,

A very present help in trouble.

Therefore, we will not fear,

Even if the earth moves beneath us.

Though the mountains be toppled,

And the waters rage and foam:

The Lord of hosts is with us;

The God of Jacob is our stronghold.

It is the Lord, who makes wars to cease,

Who breaks the bow and shatters the spear.

“Be still,” says the Lord, “and know that I am God.

I will be exalted by all nations on earth.”

Let us worship God.

*Hymn PH# 260 A Mighty Fortress Is Our God

Call to Confession

We have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God. Let us now with boldness approach the throne of grace, holding fast to our confession of sin and seeking forgiveness.

Prayer of Confession

Eternal God, you have called us into covenant, yet our commitment is shallow and our love is weak. We place lesser concerns high on the list of our life’s priorities, and so we sacrifice our relationship with you. Forgive our sin, O God, and turn us again toward your purposes. Reform our lives by renewing our dedication to the covenant we have entered through our baptism in Jesus Christ. By the leading of your Holy Spirit, give us a new sense of our calling, a new zeal in our faithfulness, new appreciation for your love in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Assurance of Pardon

By God’s great mercy we have been born anew to a living hope

through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.

In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ I declare that we are forgiven.

*Passing of the Peace

Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us forgive one another.

The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

And also with you.
