Like the disciples with Jesus, many of us have traveled over troubled and serene waters to come to this place to this chapel where we worship today. For many at SFTS Montgomery Chapel is a sanctuary of peace; a place of worship in which our journey of faith and relationship to Christ is deepened and strengthened. We invite you, now, to contemplate this space, whether it is new to you and strange or old and comfortable. Let your eyes and thoughts drift upward and around. Feel the smooth plaster encompassing you; the reassuring stones surrounding you; the stillness of the air. Notice the grains of the wood along the walls and on the benches where you are seated; the shine of the brass overhead; the colors of the windows through which the sun shines.
(Silence)
Like the ark of Moses, Montgomery Chapel welcomes those set adrift upon life’s troubled and calm waters.
(Silence)
Like the ark of Noah, Montgomery Chapel is a safe refuge when the world outside is overwhelmed.
(Silence)
Like the ark of the Covenant, Montgomery Chapel is a house for the Word of God.
(Silence)
Like the storm tossed boat, Montgomery Chapel is a place where Christ meets us and stills the wind in our lives.
(Silence)
Like the circular shape of the building the community forms a circle of unity in Christ when we commune together and receive the bread and cup and experience our oneness in Christ.
Dear God, we thank you for this place that is now our home for worship. Amen
