Morning Worship
A Litany for Peace
Welcome
*Prayer of Preparation
Eternal God, you have called us to be members of one body. Join us with those who in all times and places have praised your name, that, with one heart and mind, we may live the unity of your church and bring honor to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.
*Hymn VU # 677 O God of Every Nation
First Scripture Reading Jeremiah 6:6-15
Call to Confession
Prayer of Confession
Loving God, Mothering Spirit and Prince of Peace, you created us for life in community and relationship – with each other and with you. In your great love, you call us to love one another and to live in peace. But we go our own way. Where you desire love, we breed contempt. Where you desire peace, we wage war. Where you desire reconciliation, we nurse our grudges. Leaning into your mercy, we confess the many ways we shatter your peace:
We confess our participation in the violence in our world.
Silence.
Lord, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy.
We confess our participation in the violence in our nation.
Silence.
Lord, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy.
We confess our participation in the violence in our local communities.
Silence.
Lord, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy.
We confess our participation in the violence in our families and in our relationships with others.
Silence.
Lord, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy.
God, in your mercy, forgive us. Heal your children’s warring madness, bend our pride to your control. Make us people of your grace, and begin again in us your work of peace. Amen.
Assurance of Pardon
Hear the good news! Jesus Christ came to bring peace to those who are far and to those who are near. Anyone who is in Christ is a new creation. The old life has gone; the new life has begun. In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.
Amen! Thanks be to God!

Prayers for Peace
An Affirmation of Peace (VU #683)
Peace is not the product of terror or fear.
Peace is not the silence of cemeteries.
Peace is not the silence of violent repression.
Peace is the generous, tranquil contribution to the good of all.
Peace is dynamism. Peace is generosity.
It is right and duty.
Amen.
Prayers of the People
As we lift up our prayers in the tradition of our community, let us be particularly mindful of the need for peace in our world. Please conclude your spoken prayers with “God, in your mercy,” and the community will respond, “Lord, you bring us peace.”
The Prayer of St. Francis
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, grant that I may not seek so much
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Lord, make us instruments of your peace. Amen.
*Hymn Let There Be Peace on Earth
Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me.
Let there be peace on earth, the peace that was meant to be.
With God as our creator family all are we.
Let us walk with each other in perfect harmony.
Let peace begin with me; let this be the moment now.
With every step I take, let this be my solemn vow:
To take each moment, and live each moment in peace eternally!
Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me.
