Welcome Week

Welcome

*Call to Worship

Gracious God, gather us into your time for worship.

In these days of war,

Teach us your peace.

In these days when hatred abounds,

Teach us your love.

When you would have us speak,

Teach us to speak.

And when you would have us keep silence,

Teach us to keep silence.

Now, let us worship God.

*Hymn # 806 (VU) O God, Our Help in Ages Past

Call to Confession

Prayer of Confession

Merciful God, we confess and acknowledge all of the ways that we ignore your time and your will for our days. When you call us to build up, we tear down. When you call us to gather, we scatter and waste your good gifts. When you call us to speak against injustice, we sit in silence. And when you call us to sit in silence in your Holy Presence, we fill our lives with activity and noise. When you call us to peace, we continue to wage war. When you command us to love, we strike out at our sisters and brothers and are indifferent to their suffering.

O God, in your mercy, forgive us, wash us clean, and reset our clocks. Give us a clearer sense of your time and your will. Give us new hearts for this new year – hearts of service and love for all your children – so that we may weep with those who mourn, and dance with those who rejoice. Grant us your grace and the wisdom and compassion to spend these days in the service of your children and your kingdom. Amen.

Assurance of Pardon

Passing of the Peace

In God’s time, God reconciled us unto Godself in Christ Jesus. Let us now share together, one with another, signs of God’s reconciliation and peace.

The Peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

And also with you.

Prayer of Illumination

Scripture Reading Ecclesiastes 3:1, 7-8

For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: . . . a time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence and a time to speak; a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace.

Invitation to the Lord’s Table

The Great Prayer of Thanksgiving-Sung Liturgy

The Lord Be With You (attached)

It is Truly Right (attached)

Holy, Holy, Holy (attached)

God, we praise you for sending your Son to live among us to share our joys and sorrows. He told your story, healed the sick, and was a friend of sinners. He took up his cross and died that we might live. We praise you that he overcame death; is risen to rule the world, and is still the friend of sinners. We believe that he will overcome every power to hurt or divide us, and that when he comes in glory, we will celebrate with him. As we remember your mighty and merciful acts, we break bread and share the cup giving thanks for your saving love in Jesus Christ. As you raised Christ from death to life, and have called us with him to new life, we offer ourselves to you as a sacrifice of praise. Great is the mystery of faith:

Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.

Gracious God, pour out your Holy Spirit upon us and upon these your gifts of bread and wine, that the bread we break and the cup we bless may make us one with Christ and with all who share this feast. By your Spirit join us to Christ that we may be renewed in gratitude and sent into the world to live for others until we sit with him at your banquet table in glory. We praise you, God the Creator, God the Christ, and God the Spirit, now and forever.
